Decrease workload of IC design
Designing an integrated circuit (IC), or chip, is hard work. We want to reduce the workload associated with chip design. In the process we hope that more people become interested in IC design, one of the most challenging and fun engineering specialisms. Our cunning plan is described here.
Rising demands
The demand for IC’s is high and rising. And there is no end in sight of this trend, thanks to chip-hungry inventions and applications such as artificial intelligence, internet-of-things and organ-on-chip.
Design complexity
It is a challenge to keep up with the ever-growing demand for IC’s. Complex chips already take hundreds of man years to design.
Attract a new crowd
The more, the merrier! One of the side goals of the project is to interest the general public in the beautiful and challenging art of chip design. We hope to attract new IC designers.
Low-level design instructions
A first step to enthuse the general public is to hand out low-level instructions and tutorials on how to design a chip.
Invite everyone
We invite everybody, even your grandma, to design an integrated circuit. We hope to obtain a great variety of interesting designs.
Collect
We will collect and produce the designs-by-the-public.
Database
The results of the IC design measurements will be made publicly available in an open-access database.
Artificial intelligence
In the future, we hope to train artificial intelligence with the database to take over some parts of the IC design process.
